There needs to be some solution for 10 people voice chatting at once.#2017

A

When I try and play a lot of party games, more than two people talking at once is just painful. There are small issues like some people having a delay or being too quiet with no way to mitigate it, but the biggest issue is a lack of any positional audio. The simplest way to do this would be to have people’s voice come from their hand/steam icon, but there needs to also be a way to have it come from either an in game component/scripted object. Without any positionality, you cannot have multiple conversations happen at the same time, and it’s incredibly grating for too many people to be talking. This breaks a lot of party games and social experiences.

I do totally agree. I’m afraid that this is the reason why most people talk over discord rather than using the built-in voice chat.

The issue is that discord doesn’t have the game data and so can never work as well as TTS could if they added positionality to the voice chat.

Also you need to find your partners beforehand rather than opening your room to strangers.

Plus the discord overlay doesn’t work for Linux.

yeah, like having a “talk and hear on a radius around toggle hotkey”
And only players close to your avatar or hand can hear you.

So you can have 2 people talking on a corner of the table, while other 4 people talk on the other end without talking over each other

@GonTar TC It’s not at all about who can hear you or not, it’s about how loud you are and the positionality of your voice. Otherwise you could use team chat. The point is that most team games still need the other team to be able to hear you a little. You want to replicate how two people can whisper to each other in real life or talk on the otherside of the table without it being impossible for other people to talk/still possible to hear them.

That’s what i meant by radius, so you can have your voice lower as you go further away from others, from being barely heard, to the point you can’t be heard from being out of range

This way you can have the option to be far and have 2 separate conversations while gradually getting more distant to the voice of others, also being able to totally get away (since some games also require you to be able to whisper in a 100% un-heard manner 4 example, in a separate room) while not having teams involved at all (example some: deception/role/free for all/war games)
