In the Xia DLC, and pretty much any game with geomorphic wargame maps, you have map pieces that should snap together to make a game board; and the map pieces have some kind of grid on them - typically, a hex grid.

Unfortunately, it’s impossible to make a grid that snaps properly both the map pieces and the playing pieces that go on top of them. In addition, even if you settled for a global grid that snaps playing pieces properly, placing the map pieces so their visuals would line up with the global grid would still be a pain.
It would be nice to have a solution that allows the map pieces to snap together properly AND to have a functional grid on top of them, without having to place dozens of snapping points.
I think this might require the introduction of a multi-grid functionality, where in addition to the global grid (which in this case would presumably have large squares or hexes to snap the map pieces), would allow additional grids per-object, or per object group.
