It would be really useful if we could use shift, alt, and maybe control to modify drawings when we have the Draw tools selected. These modifier keys should follow conventions that are in other drawing apps, though.
These conventions tend to be:
- Holding shift while drawing a circle/square makes it non-distorted (like a perfect square or circle, not a rectangle or an ellipse)
- Holding shift while drawing a straight line makes it be drawn along cardinal angles, like either at 15, 30, or 45 degrees (maybe depending on your choice of rotation angles?) but off of “true north” not in relation to the camera rotation, please
- Holding alt while drawing a circle/square makes the center of the circle/square be where the cursor started. This is, IMO, often a LOT more precise when trying to draw circles especially.
- Similarly, holding alt while drawing a straight line could also make the line be drawn both from where you clicked to your cursor AND in the opposite direction, so the center of your line is always where first clicked. This behaviour is more unique as far as I can tell but would still be appreciated
- Holding control while drawing circles/squares/straight lines would make the size/position/end points of what we’re drawing snap to certain coordinates a bit like Unity, to try to help us align stuff. It could be very useful if that snapping was dictated by the Grid settings, so holding control could help up draw shapes/lines in relation to the Grid. Ideally, the snapping wouldn’t be just 1 to 1 with the grid, but maybe would snap to half of the grid, or a quarter? that’d have to be tested
Maybe you could also have modifiers do something when using the Pen tool, but I can’t think of what you could want them to do.
