Color Changing a Model -- A suggestion#708

Right now the way changing colors on a model works is that the topmost item in the model’s heirarchy is the piece that allows colors to be changed. The color changing also applies to the entire model regardless of context.

What I suggest is a way for modders to upload a model with a black and white color map applied to finely tune the color changing abilities. This can work a few different ways.

1) White on the texture map will be the area where colors can be changed, and black can be areas where colors do not change.
2) White can be used as a color 1 option, where black can be used as a color 2 option.

For example: I have a model of a soldier who wears metal armor. I only specific parts of the metal on his armor to be colorable. There are also other materals on the armor that I do not want to be colored. I cannot do this very easily in the current system that it set up, but with a color map, I can paint out where exactly coloring would be accepted onto the model for players to quickly customize their miniatures.

Why I’m suggesting this: Wargamers make up a huge population for Tabletop Simulator, and most wargames come with a variety of different factions and subfactions. Players want these as options to play with, but as a modder making these models with all their unique symbols and colors is incredibally time consuming if the faction has a lot of models. Being able to make one model and have specific areas on the model be able to change color would ease the life of me and many other people who make these mods.
