In order to completely quit the game you first have to exit to the Main Menu after which you can exit to Desktop.
It would be nice to save a few clicks by being able to directly quit to desktop from within a game.
Alt+F4 on Windows…
Alt F4 always feels too abrupt, can’t help wondering if I left something still flitting around in the memory. Where a proper exit from any software I trust is closing all those loose threads. Might be my OCD ;-)

It doesn’t. In fact, it’s impossible. Memory only exists in the context of a process. No process, no memory.
Also, there’s usually asolutely no difference bewteen between pressing Alt-F4 and exiting by someone other key or menu; they all send the WM_QUIT message to the application.
I kinda of suspected as much, but the time to exit properly was still quicker than me taking the time to reasearch the details of ALT F4. Good to know. So going off topic a bit, what is happening when ALT F4 does NOT work on some other software. I guess it has been intentionly blocked for some reason. Thinking of some bad console ports.
I am not an expert in Windows user space thread handling and I really don’t want to spend the time reading up on zombie process handling in Windows environments.
Can we perhaps just agree that it would be nicer to have a proper way to quit the application in a safe and explicit manner? :)

Again, Alt-F4.
Is Alt+F4 safe? I wonder if that could corrupt a save or autosave. I suppose it depends on how (if) TTS traps that signal.
See earlier comments.
Alt+f4 is fine and safe
If you are on a Mac, <command>Q is fine and safe too.
