Mixing Server Browser with Workshop#850

Right now the biggest source of games in Tabletop is the workshop, making a advanced server browser that shows a picture, quick description of the game and classifying the game types by different tags (RPG, strategy, etc) would help a lot with the biggest problem the game currently has, what’s the current biggest problem of the game?

Well, it’s the integration of new players, the fresh game without any type of DLC and workshop game (Basic one that the highest % of the players get at the start) leaves a very dry experience that could be easily fixed if the information of the workshop could be added in a more visually attractive way.

This can come from the things i mentioned and also different playing tags for type of players, you should have a “new player” tag in the front that new people can use and join instantly to games with people eager to teach new players and play workshop games.

The interface could be like a game client (Visually speaking, similar to steam, epic, etc) showing the picture of the game and below a list of tags of the game (RPG, cooperative, time duration of the average game, etc) then below that a quick description.

This would make the games a lot more interesting for the new users and make them eager to try them.

The current server browser is not bad for a game that is not heavily influenced by the workshop but for this game it’s very very bad.

I forgot to say but sorry for my bad english.

The problem with displaying data of the Workshop Mod being used is that the moment the workshop mod is loaded and then modified during gameplay, the information in the Server Browser is no longer accurate.

Suppose you load up Uno - okay, the Server browser will display all the Uno information, cool - but halfway through you say “Naw, let’s do monopoly” so you merge in monopoly - but the server information is still set for Uno because you merged in content from another mod instead of loading the mod from scratch - it’s no longer accurate.

Also, what happens if you delete all the Uno content, and then start importing custom content that isn’t part of a workshop mod and start playing some homebrew game? How would the server browser know?

Oh that wouldn’t be a problem for organized games (games where they organize to play X specific game only)
I think it would be a problem for friends only games but most of the times those are private.
The feature is mainly focused towards new players that want to try new games but they are placed against a lobby selection with no pictures and examples of what the game is like unless they click and go in.
That’s the biggest problem right now, not knowing what are you getting into, having to wait for a big load time (based on game) to find at the end a game that is too complex or has no tolerance for new players.

it not being a problem for organized games means it would be a problem for casual games. what I described is not an edge case, far from it. I’m point of fact, the fact that it wouldn’t work as expected would be detrimental and make it worse for new people.

I like where you’re coming from as far as community building goes, but in my opinion, TTS isnt the tool to build a community, but rather a tool for an already extant to utilize. for that, discord or similar does the job better.
